Sometimes you just have to say it like it is.

Updated: Jan 20

What you see in this picture are the burnt and crumpled farrowing crates from the pig farm fire in Kilkeel, County Down where 2000 souls lost their lives in the most horrific circumstances.

Farrowing crates are metal cages with bare concrete floors so narrow that mother sows cannot walk or even turn around. There they are trapped for weeks and months on end.

The cages deprive pregnant sows of almost all natural behaviours; they cannot explore, exercise, forage or socialise. They cannot build the nests that pigs are driven to create prior to giving birth. They cannot interact with their babies.

Most will never see the sunshine in their entire lives.

Can you imagine what it was like to be burned alive, trapped in one of these cages along side your babies, with no means of escape?

I’m told the screams were horrific and were heard for miles around.

So f*ck this farmer. F*ck his squalid farm. F*ck his ‘this was a maternity ward’ bullshit. F*ck his financial losses and f*ck this awful industry.

Am I consumed with Am I distressed and angry...yes.

Sometimes you just have to say it like it is.
